Art documentation plays a critical role in recording and promoting galleries and creative practices. Over the past 70 years formats of art documentation have changed dramatically. From black and white prints in the 1920-60s, slide film in the 1970s to digital photography and video documentation emerging in the 2000s.
Today 3D virtual tours are used to supplement gallery experiences, as an educational tool connecting galleries to new audiences, for scholarly reference and research, and in applications for future grants and funding opportunities. While the 3D virtual tour will never replace the embodied, in-person experience of visiting a gallery, this is the viewer driven and accessible format of the future.
